A Life-Changing Journey: Angela’s Transformation

Nicola: Tell us about your weight loss journey so far.

Angela: I started The New You Plan in January 2023. So in two days’ time, it will be the second anniversary. It’s just amazing. I’m smiling because I’m so happy. I lost 4st 7bs and I’m maintaining at around 9st 9lbs stone, which is the weight I’m really comfortable with.

It took me from January till September to reach my goal. It went a bit slow, but that’s just me. I know I’m a slow loser. But with The New You Plan, I did it anyway. I actually thought I would go a bit lower in the beginning. But in the end, I noticed I’m comfortable right now. I don’t need to get any lower. It went up a bit after I started maintaining, but that’s the weight I’m really comfortable with right now. And I noticed it’s not only about the numbers. It’s how you feel. And this is my feel-good weight.

The Turning Point: A Doctor’s Wake-Up Call

Nicola: What was it that actually led you to starting the plan?

Angela: I had one doctor’s appointment that was really horrible for me. I like this doctor very much. He’s normally very kind, but that day, he was just very strict with me. He told me my diabetes was out of control, my blood work was really bad, and he diagnosed fatty liver.

He said, “We need stronger medication for your diabetes.” And I was just devastated because I was stuck. I had lost some weight before, but I couldn’t get any lower. And I knew I had to do something because otherwise, the medication would go up and up again, and I didn’t want to go there.

So I started researching, and I found a professor, Dr. Roy Taylor, who recommended a formula diet. On his page, there was a New You Plan recommended as well. I had a look into that, and I thought, “Okay. That’s it. I’ll give it a try because I just had to do something.”

I started on January 1st, determined to make a change and lost weight quickly in the beginning, which was incredibly motivating. But what really made the difference this time was the mindset shift. I wasn’t just on a diet; I was changing my lifestyle.

The First Week: Challenges and Triumphs

Nicola: How did you find your first week on plan?

Angela: Well, in the beginning, I thought it would be tough because it’s such a change. But the first day was easy. I really remember my first shake. It was the Vanilla Shake. I was a bit unsure if I would like it. And I drank it, and I liked it so much. I thought, “Okay. That could work.”

The second day, I was really hungry, and that was when I got a bit worried because I knew it would be a long run, not just a short sprint. It was a bit hard until day five because headaches hit and I had a bit of a fever. But I read about it on the Secret Slimmers page, so I knew it was normal.

From then on, it got easier. I wasn’t that hungry anymore. And also, my blood sugars started dropping. So I knew I was on the right path. And from then on, it was better.

Life-Changing Results: Health and Happiness

Nicola: How would you say your life has changed so far?

Angela: Completely. I had a doctor’s appointment in June 2023, and my blood sugars were already better. After a while, I could get rid of my medication totally. I don’t need any medication anymore. And my diabetes is in a healthy range still.

Even now, maintaining, I’m always a bit scared when I get the blood work done. But after that, when I get results, I’m just like, “Yes, I did it!” I’m so happy. I’m more active. I’m going for hikes now. Even uphill is no problem anymore. If someone would have told me that three years ago, I would have said never ever.

I’m more confident. I believe in myself, and I know now I can achieve a lot. That’s just great. I feel so much better.

Lessons Learned: Angela’s Advice for New Starters

Nicola: If you could go back to the beginning when you first started the plan, knowing everything that you know now, do you have any advice you would give yourself?

Angela: I would tell myself, stick to it. It is really worth it. Don’t be worried that it might not work. Just go for it, and don’t let struggles and setbacks get in your way. Just go on. Put them behind you. Go on.

And one really important thing is to surround yourself with people that support you, and let the haters and the people that envy you, because it’s envy. If they don’t support you, most of the time it’s envy. I didn’t know at first. I see it now if I look back.

Don’t listen to them. Listen to the people that support you and surround yourself with them, and then go for it. Just go for it.
